Getting started as a practitioner

Everything for your caseload lives in the practitioner portal. The first time you open it, a short walkthrough shows you around. You can skip it and start it again later.

These are worth doing during your free week, and all of them carry over when you subscribe:

• Classes. If you see students in groups, create a class for each group under Classes & Students. Skip this if you work one to one.
• IEP defaults. Set them once in the portal's Settings, and they apply to every student.
• Categories. Draft vocabulary in the Category Designer, by hand or with AI generation. A free week includes 10 AI generations.

Your free week also comes with sample students: a shared set to explore, marked Sample, and a demo student of your own where you can try writing goals, logging trials and adding notes.

Adding your own students and publishing categories start when you subscribe. A free week can't hold a real child's record.

A student joins your caseload only after their caregiver approves. That approval is usually the longest wait, so it pays to mention it to families before you send the request.

The student needs the epSpeak app and an account. You add them under Classes & Students, by either:

• their pairing code, found in the app under Settings, My Pairing Code; or
• the email address on their account.

You can see each request's status on the same page. Nothing about a student is visible to you until their family says yes.

Once a student is connected:

• Send Categories puts vocabulary on their device. Everything you read later comes from how they use it.
• Students holds the rest, one tab each: usage overview, goals, trials, notes, reports and vocabulary.
• Lessons gives a session more structure, for one student or a whole class.
• Dashboard shows who needs you today, once there is data to go on.

You don't need a subscription of your own. Ask your district to invite you, then accept the invitation on My Account. Districts, schools and clinics can see how buying works.
