Finally: The Naples Smoke Detector Is Done

There's been a smoke detector on the Naples list since my June 19th post. I mentioned it then — the shutters were done, the water heater was done, and the smoke detector was just... still sitting there. I logged it as incomplete and moved on, which is exactly how something becomes a problem six months later if you're not paying attention.

This week I finally closed it out. On July 8th I added "Test smoke detectors" as a task on Naples Getaway, and by July 8th it was marked complete. Same day. I also added a task to flush the water heater — that one took until July 9th, but it's done too. And on July 9th I updated the "Smoke Detector Tested" attribute in the Lanai space to 2026-07-09, so there's an actual date on record and not just a checkbox.

Then on July 10th I added and completed "Deep-clean dryer vent" on Naples Getaway. That one I'd been half-thinking about since spring. Dryer vents in Florida condos are a fire thing that nobody talks about enough. Done now.

I also added "Test smoke detectors" to Our Minneapolis Home on July 10th. That one's not done yet, which feels slightly ironic to type right after talking about the Naples detector. But that's how it goes — closing one thing reveals the next one. Minneapolis is next on the list.

The rest of the week was mostly utilities. Minneapolis gas and electric, water and sewer, internet — all logged on July 9th and 10th. Naples had its own utility batch too: gas and electric came in at $344, which is the AC working hard. That number is honestly useful to have on record because I'll want to compare it to next July and see if anything's creeping up.

On July 8th I also picked up door alarm batteries — logged as $37 "Door alarm batteries (9V bulk)" under Our Minneapolis Home. That's a recurring one. I buy them in bulk because running out at the wrong moment is not an option.

Eli had OT this week too. The private pay portion was $85, which I logged under Our Minneapolis Home. I log it there because it's part of what it costs to run this household and I want the full picture, not just the mortgage and the utilities.

Not a dramatic week. But the Naples smoke detector is finally off the list, and that alone makes it feel like a win.
